The screening program must be quick, easily administered, safe, with minimum discomfort and must not carry side effects for individuals. The acceptability of a screening program can be measured by factors such as the number of persons examined  and the  proportion of the target population that is screened. The screening test must be inexpensive. The cost of the screening program include not only the cost related to the screening procedure itself but also those arising from subsequent diagnostic procedures, follow-up and intervention among those who test positive.
