Physical injury is not the only impact of a fall.

As a psychological result of a fall, Fear of falling(Loss of confidence) may also limit the daily living activities. It is estimated that 20% of older persons who fear falling limit their activity. Limiting activity also may lead to increase frailty more, and result in recurrent fall occurrence.

From New-Mexico Aging process study, for instance, about 33% of elderly populations developed a fear of falling after experiencing a fall, and it was significantly related to balance, gait, and cognitive disorders over time (Vellas, 1997). Also, fear of falling was related to lower quality of life. (Lachman et al., 1998)
