Data from EM-DAT database run by Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED) provides valuable and almost unique tools for analysis of disaster occurrence and risk assessment, because of very limited number of papers published in journals and limited research capacities.

The year 2007 was very specific in terms of disasters occurrence in Europe. Namely, in July 2007 Europe was affected by extra-tropical cyclone Kyril. The same year, the Republic of Macedonia was affected twice by natural disasters – by wild fires and by heat waves, becoming the most affected country in the world in terms of percentage of affected people.
