The principal features of global change that have health impacts [32] are climate change, i.e. global warming due to build-up of greenhouse gases[33]; stratospheric ozone depletion, which allows increasing amounts of solar ultraviolet radiation to penetrate to the earth's surface; depletion of essential resources, especially fresh water and food; species extinction, reduced biodiversity, and massive changes in the balance among all the living creatures on earth with which humans are interdependent; desertification; and underlying all these, sociodemographic, economic, cultural and political changes among the nations of the earth.
