The relationship between blood pressure and cardiovascular risk has been described from many longitudinal studies, the biggest being that in the screenees for the MRFIT study. In this investigation of some 350,000 people, there was a clear log-linear relationship between levels of diastolic blood pressure and the risk of coronary heart disease mortality.
