This table provides information about the date of first inclusion of a question about Indigenous status in various collections in the 6 States and 2 mainland Territories of Australia.

For example, at least one jurisdiction collected information about Indigenous status on its communicable disease notification forms before 1980. In at least one jurisdiction, however, this information is not yet collected.

All States and Territories now collect information about Indigenous status on birth and death notifications, cancer registrations and in hospital records. However, some collections in some jurisdictions do not yet use the standard question.
