This pattern of immediacy has enabled ISI to identify “hot papers” in its bimonthly publication Science Watch. However, full confirmation of high impact is generally obtained 2 years later. The Scientist magazine waits up to 2 years to select “hot papers” for commentary by authors. Most of these papers will eventually go on to become “citation classics.”
