They were in practice, literally, not to help their patients but to make money off of them regardless of the fact that they were probably harming their patients. Such a broad spectrum within medical quackery makes it difficult to discuss medical quackery as a simple black and white issue, but today I want to briefly review some of the major patterns that have emerged in 19th and 20th century American medical quackery.
