This shocking series of expose articles ran through February 1906 in Collier’s. All told Adams unveiled the truth about 264 quack patent medicines, phony doctors, and nostrum firms whose only goal with was to profit off the misery of their patients. The AMA, in an effort to fight patent medicines reprinted all of Adams’ articles from Collier’s in a book under the title The Great American Fraud. Nearly 500,000 copies of this book were distributed nationally to the public.
