In 2002, the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI) received $30 US million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to organize and implement mass scale chemotherapy control of schistosomiasis in Africa. Based primarily at Imperial College, University of London, the SCI is an international partnership inclusive of the Gates Foundation, the WHO and the Harvard School of Public Health.
