Research on the perceptual system has been intense since the turn of the 20th Century, yet we still have only a partial understanding of its complexities. The lecture first describes the features of perception, differentiating perception from sensation and outlining the main characteristics of perceptual function.

The above features are considered. We then think about the range of circumstances perception is relevant in health care and why a working knowledge of the character of perception is advantageous to you as doctors.
