Multi-modality Biomedical Ultrasound Imaging Lab

OVERVIEW

The Multi-modality Biomedical Ultrasound Imaging Lab (MBUIL) led by Dr. Kang Kim develops ultrasound based technologies that can non-invasively image structural, mechanical, compositional, and functional features of biological tissues. The primary modalities investigated include ultrasound Thermal Strain Imaging (TSI) for lipid detection and quantification, Ultrasound Elasticity Imaging (UEI) and Shear Wave Imaging (SWI) for tissue mechanical property characterization, and Photoacoustic Molecular Imaging (PMI) for detection of disease specific biomarkers. Clinical applications include cardiac and cardiovascular diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases, liver diseases, and cancers. The imaging techniques are also applied in monitoring engineered tissue constructs.
