The development of scientific knowledge about thinking. An examination, from a historical perspective, of early attempts to study thinking scientifically. Also examines what is considered the best model of thinking. Compares the symbolic and connectionist models that use the computer as a model for thinking and cognition.
It is assumed that students will have taken either INFSCI 2300 or INFSCI 1042, or the equivalent. Students who have not had a background in cognitive psychology, but who are motivated to study the required background material on their own, are welcome to attend the class.
