Picture of Catherine CoulterCatherine Coulter's first novel was published late in 1978. Wisely, her first novel was a Regency romance novel. Why was that a smart move? Because, as anyone in the romace publishing industry should tell you, it's best write a formula book first (that way, both you and your potential publisher know the rules), and Regency romance stories definitely have a formula.

Ms. Coulter has an exhaustively long list of romance novels to her credit. And I do mean, to her credit. She is the novelist who pioneered the character-linked trilogy in historical romance. My favorite of her historical romances are the Sherbrook stories. What started out as one of her classic trilogies has exploded into seven books.

But romance is not all this phenomenal author writes. Ms. Coulter has an FBI mystery / detective series that is out of this world (but not literally). What started as a tentative step into new shoes in 1996 has taken off at a dead heat run. Her FBI series now contains nine titles, and I sincerely hope it will continue to grow.
