Picture of Carole Nelson Douglas with Jane SeymourAs a child, Carole Nelson Douglas loved the Sherlock Holmes mysteries. But one thing she noticed the absence of was strong women in the stories. To ammend this omission, she invented Irene Adler (pronounced Eye-REE-nee, according to Ms. Douglas). Irene is a contemporary of Sherlock Holmes, who lives with her husband in France.

In addition to Victorian mysteries, Ms. Douglas has a contemporary series referred to as the Midnight Louie myseries. Midnight Louie, for anyone not familiar with the series, is a black feline sleuth who works with his owner (and I use the term "owner" loosely, as anyone who lives with cats will understand) to solve "the case."
