Course Description:History 400 is an introductory survey course on the history of East Asian civilization to about 1800. This is a lower-level course designed for Freshmen and Sophomores. There are no pre-requisites. Regular attendance in lectures and recitation sections is required. There will be a mid-term and final examination which will combine essay and short answer questions. These exams will cover information presented in class lectures, assigned readings, recitation sections, and on the course web page. The final grade will be weighed as follows: midterm examination, 30% percent; final examination, 40%; and a recitation grade based on participation and attendance, quizzes, and weekly assignments, 30% (see below). Recitation: All students must register for a recitation section. All sections are on Thursdays:
