Fish Publishing Contests: sponsor of the the Fish Short Story Prize, one of the largest international short story competitions. Fish also runs poetry, crime, and historical fiction competitions.

OPPORTUNITIES

JELP Award: awarded to the best research paper on literature by a UPG Junior.

The Norman N. McWhinney Scholarships in English Literature at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg: To be awarded each fall semester. One scholarship for a Junior Literature major, and one for a Senior Literature major. Must meet GPA requirements: 3.50 or above in major, and 3.25 overall. Must be nominated by English faculty or any senior faculty at UPG.

Left: Christine de Pisan, poet and historiographer, born at Venice, 1363; died in France, 1430. She became the first woman in France to earn her living as a writer. She is probably most famous today for Le Livre de la Cite des Dames [The Book of the City of the Ladies] 1405.
