The requirements for local protein synthesis differ at the sites of initiation and capture of long-term facilitation. At the site of initiation two components of local protein synthesis are required: an emetine-sensitive components of local protein synthesis to maintain facilitation after 48 hours. At the site of capture, inhibitors of cyclic AMP block the capture completely. By contrast, the rapamycin-synthesis-sensitive components of local protein synthesis is only required for maintenance of facilitation.
