The end of our strategic consideration is that we invest today more in clinical research than in basic research. About 5/8 of our dollars are spent on clinical research, because the public deserves answers sooner while we’re finding out additional information why some of these practices work, how they work, and what interactions they may have. This is sort of the exact mirror opposite from most of the other NIH institutes, which invests primarily in basic discovery.
