Walking is by far the most common form of recreational physical activity in the United States. Various national surveys have estimated that at least 50% of the population engage in walking for exercise. Other common activities include running/jogging, bicycling, aerobic dance, strength training and gardening. These activities are also promoted by national health organizations as moderate intensity physical activities that can contribute to optimal health.
