Chris Meyns

The Making of Information: Early Modern Ontologies

Chris Meyns works as an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Utrecht University (The Netherlands). They are also a member of the Descartes Centre for the History and Philosophy of Science.

They have published articles on a variety of topics in the history of Early Modern philosophy and science, for example on Leibniz and probability theory, and most recently on sympathy as an explanatory category. Currently they are working on a number of articles on Early Modern theories of perception, and are editing a volume, Information and the History of Philosophy, to be published with Routledge.

Chris has additional interests in metaphysics, philosophy of mind, the impact of enslavement on philosophy, and the ethics of copyright.

While in Pittsburgh, Chris will be working on a project on early modern views of information.

Outside philosophy, Chris is an architecture and typography enthusiast, and is always on the lookout for single origin South American filter coffee.
