Lucia Foglia
McGill University, QC, Canada
Spring Term 2014
The Bodily Self and its Disruption in Schizophrenia

Lucia Foglia is pursuing a second doctorate in the Department of Philosophy at McGill University. Most of her work, philosophical interests and research experience fall within the scope of philosophy of mind and cognitive science. During her stay at Pittsburgh she will be working on theoretical issues that are raised by neuro-reductionist approaches in psychiatry. She will focus, in particular, on theories of embodied, and embedded cognition and what they imply for our understanding of psychiatric disorders. She aims to show that a focus on embodiment is illuminating mental disorders and will advance our understanding of psychosis in particular.
