PITT ARTS is a proud partner in the Outside of the Classroom Curriculum.
The Outside of the Classroom Curriculum is a University-wide initiative designed to educate the whole student through the completion of a series of programs, activities and experiences that complement each student’s academic studies. Derived from the provost’s goals for University of Pittsburgh graduates, the curriculum engages students as they grow in nine key areas while they progressively complete a host of learning experiences outside the classroom. These areas are:
- Appreciation for the Arts
- Career Preparation
- Communication Skills
- Healthy Lifestyle
- Leadership Development
- Respect for Diversity
- Sense of Self
- Service to Others
- University Participation
PITT ARTS has been a curricular and programmatic leader in the “Cultivating an Appreciation of the Arts” goal area. Credits for the OCC in this goal area can be met in the following ways via the PITT ARTS program’s offerings:
The Free Visits Program allows freshmen students to swipe for OCC credit at all of the PITT ARTS Museum partners; these include the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, Heinz History Center, Mattress Factory, and Andy Warhol Museum;
Free Arts Encounters that include free transportation, tickets, and a meal, as well as a chance to meet the stars of the arts world, may be swiped for OCC credit;
Students can swipe for OCC credit at PITT ARTS on-campus events such as Attack of the Cheap Seats and the PITT ARTS Art Fair; and
Students who attend symphonies or plays on their own via the Cheap Seats program may submit an Involvement Request for those experiences.
