I consider myself a scientist (albeit 101 stuff), but different than most: when I look at physical things, I can't help but see spiritual implications!
Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual,
but that which is natural;
and afterward that which is spiritual.

The Theory of Evolution

I have yet to get a whole and clear picture of the theory, but here is my take: in order to start with nothing and get something, an improbable (not impossible) occurance breaks that nothing into something and the opposite of something (where the opposite of something is a whole other discussion, but think 0 = 1 - 1). Then we need some sort of building blocks of life, like amino acids (which have an improbable, but not impossible chance of forming). Next, simple organisms had to evolve (or adapt) into complex ones, and then somehow become male and female (as opposed to simple organisms just splitting in half to procreate); but, it's all possible because of a great amount of time and luck; i.e. with enough time, anything has a chance to become possible; however, that's the kicker: I bet you've never seen anything fix itself without influence (i.e. if you don't add work/force added, it decays; e.g. my old 100+ year old house needed a lot of TLC because previous owners didn't do any work).

But the question has been asked: did you see it all happen (see Job 38:4)? I did not, but I do see the world which we live in now (which everybody else sees, but not all come to the same conclusion!). The stories of the bible (yes, translated from long ago, but if you believe in God, you can believe that He influenced its survival) do not conflict with modern science; indeed, they provide a template for modern science to explain. It will be tough, especially since believing in a Father/Creator may seem even more difficult than the alternate theory above, but I'll share some of my thoughts (as a 101 scientist: why; and 101 engineer: how), which may or may not make it easier to see God's fingerprint in everything!
