Resouces

  • Geoinformatics Lab: Geoinformatics encompasses a collection of special techniques, technologies, and tools for the acquisition, processing, management, analysis, and presentation of geospatial data. Numerous applications are benefiting from geoinformatics techniques, technologies, and tools and with recent advances in geoinformatics and related technologies, such as Web services and grid computing, new geoprocessing paradigms and applications are expected to emerge.
  • Virtual Theatre: The SIS Virtual Theatre supports CaveUT 2004, which is a set of modifications allowing the Unreal Tournament 2004 (UT2004) game engine to display in CAVE-like displays and panoramic digital theaters. It supports off-axis projection for correct perspective and multiple views from the observer's viewpoint. CaveUT won fifth place in the Educational category of the "Make Something Unreal Contest" sponsored by NVIDIA and Epic Games. Sean Ellis and Matthew Kelley from VISC worked on the Virtual Theatre project along with CaveUT creator Jeffery Jacobson.
  • Courses which represent this research area: INFSCI 2460 Spatial Reasoning for GIS, INFSCI 2720 Geospatial Information Systems, INFSCI 2751 Internet-based and Interoperable GIS, and LIBSCI 2970 Information Visualization. This RIG will strengthen the synergy between research and teaching with the long term goal of increasing student enrollment in these courses.
  • The RIG can also exploit the school's wireless and telecom lab infrastructure comprising of the experimental network, sensor devices, and mobile stations for research in location based services (implementing prototype testbeds for example).
