CEDAR Experimental Design
Three groups of male and female children are studied for a 20-year period:
- Offspring of substance abusing fathers
- Offspring of normal fathers
- Offspring of psychiatrically disturbed fathers
The 3 groups are longitudinally tracked from age 10-12 until they reach age 30 using the following assessment schedule.

Baseline_______________________________________________Outcome
As of June 1, 2009, CEDAR has recruited 775 families into the project. The primary outcome of interest is a DSM-IV substance use disorder. However, other positive and negative outcomes are also of interest, including violence, school failure, and psychological and medical problems.
