Pitt and Allegheny County partner to vaccinate patient-facing students

The Petersen Event Center

On Jan. 28 and 29, 2021, the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) will provide COVID-19 vaccinations to clinical, patient-facing health care students in the state’s Group 1A health care personnel designation at the University’s Petersen Events Center.

Pitt is awaiting approval from the state to be an independent vaccine provider. Currently, Pennsylvania is only providing COVID-19 vaccines to health organizations for distribution; however, the University is actively engaged with the state to secure COVID-19 vaccines for students, faculty and staff on all campuses. In the meantime, Pitt is working with UPMC and ACHD to connect patient-facing health care personnel to the vaccine. In addition to this clinic, UPMC is also vaccinating a number of our patient-facing health care personnel.

In anticipation of the need to independently distribute vaccines in the future, committees within Pitt’s COVID-19 Medical Response Office are developing a distribution infrastructure and coordinating the prioritization of staff, faculty and students based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and ACHD guidance.
