Pitt community members can sign up for MLK Day of Service through Jan. 11. The PittServes event will send up to 600 volunteers to local nonprofits around Pittsburgh on Jan. 16.

The annual Pitt event commemorates Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which was the first federal holiday to be designated a national day of service.

Projects may include painting, cleaning and beautifying buildings, packing food and hygiene kits, organizing supplies and working in food pantries. Volunteers will work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Students, faculty and staff can register as individuals or as part of a residence hall, student organization or athletic team. Projects will be assigned by Jan. 14. Email the Signature Days of Service Committee with questions at signaturedaysofservice [at] pitt.edu.
