Kirk Holbrook, director of the University of Pittsburgh’s Hill District Community Engagement Center, was recognized by Independent Sector, Pittsburgh Public Schools and Remake Learning.

As a Bridging Fellow in Independent Sector’s inaugural Bridging Fellows program, Holbrook will participate in a two-year professional, personal and network development program, which focuses on bridging specific ideological, racial, socioeconomic and geographical divisions toward equity and racial justice. Holbrook is one of 40 people in Pittsburgh, Chicago and Dallas selected for the program, which is supported by Walmart.

Holbrook was also selected to be a volunteer Remake Learning ambassador to share best practices with other community leaders to improve their community engagement work. The Remake Learning network supports youth science technology, engineering and mathematics learning initiatives and comprises more than 500 organizations in Pittsburgh, southwestern Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia.

Pittsburgh Public Schools also honored Holbrook with the Technology Integration Award from the district’s Career and Technical Education Division.
