Student Recovering from Potential Meningitis

A Pitt student athlete was treated for a potential case of bacterial meningitis and is now recovering. Those who had direct contact with the student were given preventative antibiotics.

Out of an abundance of caution, other athletes and students living on the floor of the residence hall where the student resides were provided the single dose antibiotic. Bacterial meningitis is not transmitted through air or on surfaces, but can be transmitted though bodily fluids, such as saliva or perspiration.
