Research Associate Position: (Opening)

Responsibilities surround a long-term project employing adult stem cells from muscle or skin to repair injured tissues. We are seeking an individual interested in advancing basic molecular biology findings through research and development toward clinical translation for cell-based therapies. The successful candidate will examine gene construction and application in vitro and in vivo. The ideal candidate should have experience working with vector developing, in addition to cell biology techniques. Applicants must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Management experience will be considered, but not required. The position is immediately available, and is initially established for a 2-year period. Salary is dependent upon the experience of the applicant; standard university or Pittsburgh benefits will be provided. To apply, please send curriculum vitae and contact information for three references to: liy4@upmc.edu

The Laboratory of Molecular Pathology (LMP) belongs to the department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Pathology, and affiliates to the Stem Cell Research Center of UPMC. Research from this Lab is involved with developing novel projects which relate to the musculoskeletal system by using updated molecular biology techniques. We are investigating the signaling process of dedifferentiated skeletal muscle, thereby obtaining a population of multipotent progenitor cells which may help to overcome the existing limitations of stem cell therapy. We are also interested in discovering the mechanisms behind fibrosis formation in the musculoskeletal system and the potential therapeutic approaches.

Postdoctoral Fellow position: (Closed)

Candidate will conduct research relating to the effects of transforming growth factor-beta1 within injured skeletal muscle. Ideal candidate should have a PhD/MD in molecular biology or cell biology, and experience in cell culture. Previous experience in dedifferentiation and signaling research will be considered. The candidate should have a solid publication record, the ability to conduct independent research, and be willing to work in a cross-disciplinary environment with various biologists. Applicants must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Please email an updated CV or Biosketch, and a brief description of your research interests and career plans (< 1 page).

Research Assistant position: (Closed)

Responsibilities surround a long-term project employing adult stem cells from muscle or skin to repair injured and diseased liver. We are seeking an individual interested in advancing basic cell biology findings through research and development toward clinical translation for cell-based therapies. The successful candidate will examine adult stem cell differentiation capacity in vitro and in vivo. The ideal candidate should have experience working with hepatocyte isolation and culture, and possess technical expertise in biochemistry, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemistry, as well as basic and advanced molecular biology techniques.
