  • =======================Nick Cox, 08 Mar 1997==========ssc Message-ID: <6852C4302C@makalu.dur.ac.uk> From: Nick Cox <N.J.Cox@DURHAM.AC.UK> Subject: Directional data analysis The Mardia 1972 text is supposedly coming out in a second edition with Jupp as co-author from John Wiley. There are more recent books by Nick Fisher and friends on Statistics of spherical data (Cambridge University Press, 1987) and by Nick Fisher on Statistics of circular data (Cambridge University Press, 1993). They have excellent fresh modern approaches with lots of real examples, but are rather misprint-prone. The author maintains errata lists which are vital for serious study of these books. There is a commercial program called Oriana for circular statistics: check out www.kovcomp.co.uk. I am not aware of any similar program for spherical statistics, but it would be worth looking at software directories aimed at geologists. I don't think any mainstream statistical software supports directional data analysis. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
