Council Charge

Patricia Beeson, the University’s Provost, delivered the Council’s charge. She asked Council members to:

• continue to support individual researchers, particularly through the Central Research Development Fund and the annual Federal Agencies Trip;
• invite humanities and social science grant recipients to deliver talks, in which they outline how they acquired funding;
• work with University faculty members to identify multidisciplinary, cutting-edge research questions and create research groups to address them;
• invite speakers from the University’s research-related administrative units to address the Council.

Miscellaneous

Council members briefly discussed the University’s intellectual property policy. The Provost noted that her predecessor, James Maher, recently completed a benchmarking study on other universities’ intellectual property policies.

George Klinzing, Vice Provost for Research, mentioned URC-sponsored multidisciplinary team meetings. Manufacturing, cybersecurity, and social networking previously have been discussed at these meetings.
