Pitt's Slovak Club

Hundreds of thousands of residents in Pennsylvania and many more elsewhere in the United States and Canada claim Slovak ancestry. Located in the heart of one of the three areas with the largest concentration of Slovak Americans, the University of Pittsburgh is ideally positioned for maintaining Slovakia's heritage. The university has a multi-faceted Slovak Studies Program.

The Slovak Club is one component of this program. "Our activities have been very successful," notes Barb Mima, a former president of Pitt's Slovak Club. "We have received generous funding from the university that has helped us organize interesting events with a broad appeal to diverse students. These have ranged from topics relating to Slovakia, discussions with visiting Slovak students and film presentations, to Saint Nicholas talent night and rafting trips. We are especially proud of our annual Slovak Talent Festival at Pitt. You wouldn't believe how many people attend the events we organize!"

The University of Pittsburgh's Slovak Club invites all interested parties to participate in its activities. You may learn more about upcoming events by calling the Slavic Department at 412-624-5906 (or by FAXing to 412-624-9714).
