Q: Is Angelina Jolie Slovak?

Angelina Jolie Voight was born in Beverly Hills (Los Angeles) on 4 June 1975. Two of her great-grandparents said they came from Slovak families.

Her great-grandfather George Voytka (Jur or Juraj Vojtka), born on 24 April 1879, gave his ethnicity as Slovak in the 1910 Census. He immigrated from the Kingdom of Hungary, a province of the Habsburg Empire that included Slovakia at that time, around 1895.

George's wife Helen, Angelina's great-grandmother, born in New Jersey, gave both of her parents' ethnicity as Slovak and their country of birth as (the Kingdom of) Hungary, the same as where George came from.

Contrary to claims on numerous webpages, the towns or villages where either Helen's parents or George were born are unknown. Click on Jon Voight, her actor father, for details.
