Overview
Given the wide variety of services available
and the ever-changing nature of technology, it is not uncommon for a user
to have several different network account names and passwords. In
general, all users have the following accounts:
-
Network Authorization Account - (also
called your Pitt account, your computer username and your e-mail logon
name). This is your general Pitt network account and makes available a
broad range of CSSD services including access to the student computing
labs, library computers and remote/network access. This account should
have been created for you at your time of employment.
If your supervisor does not
provide this information, contact the User Services Office at x7194 or
x7105.
-
UPJ Specific Domain Account - (also
called your machine logon /account name). This account is unique to your
machine and protects it from access by other users. This account name will
be provided to you when your personal computer is setup by IT staff.
(In some cases, this account name will be the same as your Pitt account
name)
Special Access Accounts - if your
access special network services or departmental databases like ISIS, PRISM,
RAZOR’S EDGE, ADMISSIONS, etc.., you will have other, separate account
names and passwords. These are usually provided for you at the time of
your training.

Account Information
In most cases, your Network Authorization
Account (username) will be of your last name or 1st initial and last name.
For example, smith or msmith for Mark Smith.
Your e-mail address will consist of your
username at the domain pitt.edu. From the previous example, Mark
Smith’s e-mail address would be: smith@pitt.edu |
Passwords
Your assigned password will probably consist
of the last 4 digits of your SS# and then the middle two. For example,
362784 if your SS# was 123-84-3627.
You should change your password for security
sake once you've learned to access the network; go online at http://accounts.pitt.edu
for instructions.
All password problems should be directed
to Rob Eckenrod, the campus accounts administrator, in 141 Blackington.
X7105.
Do not allow other people access your
account and/or use your e-mail. There are severe penalties for misuse of
the University network, e-mail and the Internet. |
