The Outdoor Adventure
Component
The outdoor adventure component of the OACS residential living community
provides a meaningful way for students to engage in challenging, risk-taking
activities in a socially acceptable way. Although the perceived risk in many
of these activities is high, the actual risk and danger is low.
OACS members
share many exhilarating outdoor experiences with one another throughout the
year. Members engage in outdoor adventure activities, such as whitewater
rafting, hiking, caving, wilderness survival courses, camping, rock
climbing, snowshoeing, snow tubing, paintball, skiing, horseback riding, and
more. The calendar of events is planned and implemented by the members
themselves.
Because
Pitt-Greensburg is located near so many pristine areas of nature in
southwestern PA – such as the Laurel Highlands – the OACS program benefits
greatly from these natural resources. Each year, OACS members venture to
southwestern PA locations such as Ohiopyle, Laurel Caverns, Seven Springs
Mountain Resort, and more.
