Junior Essay in Literature Prize
A $500 annual prize for the best essay by a junior on literature
Eligibility: For the Spring 2009 award, any full-time enrolled UPG student, any major, who will have, by Dec. 31st, 2008
Essay: The submitted essay must be the student’s own, as judged by the Academic Integrity standards of the university. Its subject matter must be one or more works of literature, and the essay must include some consideration of previously published critical responses to and/or the historical contexts of that literature. The essay must be 1500-4000 words long, and submitted typed on paper in correct MLA format and in four copies. The essay must be one previously submitted for a course at UPG, but it may have been revised after having received the instructor’s comments or revised according to the student’s own conception. The copies submitted, however, must be clean, not with the instructor’s remarks. The essays will be judged on the basis of sophistication and originality of the central idea in the essay, quality of the evidence and research offered in support of this idea, the clarity of the writing style and organization, and the grammar, punctuation, and the correctness of the documentation.
Submissions: Submit your essay, in four copies, to Professor Sayre Greenfield in 207 FOB by Friday, January 30th, 2009.
