The Women's Softball team, coached by second year coach, Rhonda Cooley, is in their 5th year of competition.  The Bobcats compete at the NCAA Division III level and are also members of the AMCC and the ECAC.  Our opponents include AMCC teams: Lake Erie, La Roche, Frostburg State, Pitt-Bradford, Penn State Altoona and Penn State Behrend.  We also play many of the best NCAA Division III teams in Southwestern PA.  While the Women's Softball program is still young, we are excited about the direction it is taking and the accomplishments thus far.

Season Outlook

The UPG Women’s Softball program begins its fourth season with 6 returning players. They look forward to improving upon their  record in 2001 of 7-14. In three short years the program has improved dramatically and last year was the best season to date.  The team is lead by Juniors Kacey Greenwalt (.273) (Windsor,CT) and Kristy Scholl (.413) (Norwin) who bring a solid offensive threat and experience. Sophomores Jen Horton (Hempfield) , Rachel Dye (McGuffey), and Ashlie Burkholder (Cocalico, Denver,PA) will contribute their consistent defensive skills and basepath speed. The only senior, Ashley Brown (Salaisbury Elk-Lick) offers experience.  She is the first four year player at UPG and is an outstanding fielder.  Last year she lead the team with a .958 fielding percentage. Coach Cooley also looks for major contributions from transfer JR Kristi Carney (WCCC), SO Torey Auld (Zelienople), SO Angelica Carr (Dubois), FR Traci Pullman (Dubois), FR Jen Sutlic (Penn-Trafford), FR Devon Tokar (Hempfield), FR BJ Bertges (Plum), FR Jen Grego (Freeport), and FR Melissa Wiggins (Beaver) who will be playing their first games for UPG March 15th.

Coach Profile

RHONDA COOLEY: Rhonda Cooley begins her first year as Head coach of the Bobcat softball team. Coach Cooley was a standout softball player for 4 years at Division III powerhouse Baldwin-Wallace College.  She also has 7 years experience coaching fastpitch although this is her first season at the collegiate softball helm.  Her goal for the team is to build a solid, goal-oriented softball program that will contend for the AMCC championship each year. "I want each player to excel as an individual, both on and off the field, striving to become a complete student athlete."
