HISTORY
(Bachelor of Arts)

The discipline of History is concerned with the broad range of experiences, events and decisions which have taken place in the past and which have shaped our current world.  Our program concentrates on the history of the United States, Europe and Latin America and their interactions with the remainder of the world.  It is also concerned with imparting an introductory knowledge of the basic tools of history.
 
 

History -- Major Requirements (36 credits)

Students must earn at least a grade of C in all courses used to fulfill major requirements.  Courses used to fulfill major requirements may not be used to simultaneously fulfill the General Education degree requirement for the baccalaureate.

Core Requirements (15 credits)
    All History majors must complete five of the following core courses:
        HIST 0180....................19th Century Europe
        HIST 0500....................Colonial Latin America
        HIST 0501....................Modern Latin America
        HIST 0600....................USA to 1876
        HIST 0601....................USA, 1865-Present
        HIST 1367....................20th Century Europe

Additonal Course Requirements (18 credits)
    All History majors must complete at least six additional courses from the following:
        CLAS 0010...................Greek Civilization
        CLAS 0020...................Roman Civilization
        HIST 0187.....................World War Two
        HIST  0301....................19th Century Russia
        HIST 0302.....................Soviet and Post Soviet Russia
        HIST 1005.....................Special Topics: Westmoreland County, for example
        HIST 1008.....................Public History
        HIST 1012.....................Images of Women in Film
        HIST 1022.....................Women in Modern Europe
        HIST 1123.....................Modern Britain
        HIST 1338.....................Weimer and Nazi Germany
        HIST 1522.....................Brazil
        HIST 1525.....................Mexico
        HIST 1565.....................Race and Gender in Latin America
        HIST 1583.....................20th Century Latin American Revolutions
        HIST 1590.....................Andean Region
        HIST 1614.....................US Civil War Era
        HIST 1656.....................US Workers Since 1865
        HIST 1661.....................US Women Since 1865

Capstone Course (3 credits)
    All History majors must complete one of the History capstone courses:
        HIST 1955
