English Writing (Bachelor of Arts)

The English major stresses critical reading and effective writing. UPG offers both a literature major and a writing major. UPG's writing major includes concentrations in creative writing, journalism, and public relations/advertising, but also allows students to take courses in other types of writing. This broad approach encourages creative writing and expands the student's preparation for the job market. Students must earn at least a C grade in all courses used to fulfill the major requirements.

Required Courses (36 credits; 24 in writing and 12 in literature):

Writing majors must complete at least two of the following introductory courses before enrolling in advanced writing classes:

ENGWRT 0550 Introduction to Journalism

NOTE:A third introductory course will not count toward the 36 credits required for the major. Students must complete at least one composition course above the level of ENGCOMP 0010 College Composition 1, before enrolling in a writing course.

Four related courses (12 credits) in an area approved by the advisor.  The remaining six courses (18 credits) in writing may be taken in any combination of writing classes listed below:
