What is the Emerging Leaders Development Series?

The Program
The UPG ELDS Program is a leadership development workshop series.  In many ways it is similar to management development programs in corporations, with the main difference being that the series is tailored specifically to college students who lead others in the University community.

Experiential Learning
The workshops are not held in the conventional classroom setting.  Experiential learning can best be described as learning through doing.  The workshops combine non-traditional and traditional learning tools, such as guest facilitators, who will encourage academic, community, and professional leadership.

Community Service
Emerging Leaders will participate in various community service projects that will help build a sense of community among the group.  In addition, volunteer work is a practice of good ethics and displays a concern for humanity.

Student Involvement Transcript
This transcript records all leadership activities that a student will participate in while at UPG.  The transcript enhances portfolios and resumes, so that UPG students are more marketable when starting his/her job search.  Registering for this program is a part of the Series.

Why Should You Join?
  • You learn leadership skills that will be useful during and after college.  As a workshop participant, you will learn valuable skills that will prove to be beneficial in a multitude of situations throughout your life.
  • You develop supportive relationships with peers, faculty and staff at UPG.  The group not only provides pertinent information and experiences, but also serves as a social support network.
  • You increase your opportunities for success.  70% of employers want new graduates to have enjoyed extensive co-curricular involvement.  In addition to a solid academic foundation, employers desire new employees who are able to make an impact on the social and interpersonal climate in their companies.
*Successful completion of this program will earn you a Certificate of Leadership which will go on your Student Involvement Transcript.
