Women’s Soccer Update
Team scores first goal

Freshman Katie O’Brien (McGuffey H.S.) made history on September 20 as she scored the first goal in the history of UPG Women’s Soccer.  The goal came in an away contest against Penn-State Altoona.  Freshman Melissa Sulinski (Greensburg H.S.) followed O’Brien’s goal with a goal of her own to give the Lady Bobcats a 2-1 lead at intermission.  However, the Lady Bobcats could not hold on for their first victory of the season and dropped the game 3-2.   The Lady Bobcats host Penn State-Behrend on September 30 before traveling to Washington & Jefferson for an October 2 game.

Men’s Soccer Update
Loss ends streak

The Bobcats five-game streak without a loss (two ties and three victories) came to an end with their 2-0 loss to Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, September 23.  The loss brings the Bobcats record to 3-3-2.  Despite the loss, the Bobcats still look poised to make a playoff run.  The Bobcats host Penn State-Behrend on Saturday, September 30 and then travel to Waynesburg on Thursday, October 5.

Women’s Tennis Update
Young squad continues to struggle

The Lady Bobcats dropped their September 23 match at Bethany by a count of 7-2.   The two UPG victories were picked up by sophomore Angie Inselmini (Derry H.S.) and sophomore Jacqueline Billheimer (Connellsville H.S).  The Lady Bobcats have consecutive home meets as they host Lake Erie on September 30 and Penn-State Behrend on October 1.

Women’s Volleyball Update
Team earns first victory

The UPG Lady Bobcats picked up their first win of the season on Thursday September 21 by defeating AMCC rival LaRoche 3 games to 0.  Freshman Holly Botti (Penn Trafford H.S.) and Freshman Angelica Carr (Dubois Area H.S.) each recorded nine kills in the victory.

The win was sandwiched between a pair of losses as the Lady Bobcats dropped their September 18 contest to Carlow, 3 games to 0 and their September 23 match against Thiel, 3-0.  Against Carlow, Botti and Carr recorded 13 kills and 10 kills respectively.

The win against LaRoche gives the Lady Bobcats confidence for the rest of the season as they try to tally another victory.  The Lady Bobcats travel to Pitt-Bradford on September 30 before returning home to play AMCC foe Frostburg on October 3.
