Women’s Basketball Update
Arnold sets record; Bobcats win first game

In a 76-54 loss to Thiel on Dec. 3, junior Erin Arnold (Kiski Area H.S.) scored 12 points and became the all-time leading scorer in University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women’s basketball history.  This season, Arnold is leading the Bobcats in scoring (13.8 ppg), steals (2.5 spg), blocks (0.5 bpg) and offensive rebounds (2.8 orpg).

Arnold had the chance to add to her career-points record on Dec. 3 as the Bobcats traveled to Penn State-Altoona to kickoff Allegheny-Mountain-Collegiate-Conference play.  The Bobcats held an eight-point lead at halftime, 23-15, holding PSU-Altoona to just 17-percent shooting in the first half.

In the second half, however, the Bobcats faltered as they surrendered 42 points and were defeated 57-51.  Arnold and sophomore guard Jordan Fox (Hempfield Area H.S.) each scored 14 points in the win. Arnold also picked off four steals for the Bobcats.  Sophomore guard Torey Auld (Seneca Valley H.S.) scored 13 points and handed out six assists. Sophomore Annie Sral (Bishop Guilfoyle H.S.) grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss.

The Bobcats returned home on Dec. 8 to face Pitt-Bradford.  The Bobcats led the whole way to capture a 72-60 win.  Dating back to last season, the win was UPG’s ninth-straight AMCC win at home.  The victory pushed the Bobcats to 1-1 in AMCC play.

Against the Pitt-Bradford Panthers, four Bobcats scored in double figures, led by Arnold who scored 21 points to go with eight rebounds.  Auld scored 11 points and tied her own single-game record by handing out 10 assists in the win.  Fox scored 13 points in the win and hit on 3-7 from three-point land.

Arnold was honorable mention for AMCC Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week after averaging 15.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg, and 4.0 spg. for the Bobcats.  The Bobcats travel to Waynesburg (Waynesburg, Pa.) on Dec. 15 and then are off until after Christmas.

Men’s Basketball Update
Bobcats go 1-1, win first AMCC game

The UPG Bobcats opened their AMCC schedule on Dec. 5 at PSU-Altoona.  After taking a 32-20 lead at the half, the Bobcats cruised to a 75-59 victory led by junior Mike Dudek (Woodland Hills H.S.) who scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  Junior guard Jeff Fisher (Bethel Park H.S.) scored 19 points and handed out a team-high four assists while sophomore Scott Winfrey (Uniontown H.S.) scored 14 points for UPG.

Following the win at PSU-Altoona, the Bobcats returned home to face Pitt-Bradford in an AMCC contest.  The Bobcats
shot a solid 47-percent from the floor in the game but it was not enough as they suffered a 73-64 defeat.  Three freshmen lead the way, Ryan Moye (Washington H.S.) lead all scorers with 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds.  Phil Grenda
(Hempfield Area H.S.) scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds for the Bobcats while John Pulley scored six points and collected seven caroms.

The Bobcats are now 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the AMCC.  UPG travels to Hiram (Hiram, Ohio) on Dec. 17 and to Westminster (New Wilmington, Pa.) on Wednesday, Dec. 19.  The men’s team will then return to action in the New Year.
