Bobcat Weekly
Updates
The ever-improving Bobcats looked to move up in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference standings last week but suffered two setbacks along the way.
The Bobcats opened their week with a 6-1 non-conference defeat at Division II Salem International on Oct. 10. Freshman Melissa Wiggins scored the only goal for UPG.
In the Bobcats’ second game of the week, not even a stellar 31 save effort by sophomore goalkeeper Lauri Altman (Greensburg-Salem H.S.) could guarantee a victory. Although tied 0-0 at the half the Bobcats’ offense just couldn’t get the job done as UPG suffered a 3-1 loss at AMCC foe Penn State-Behrend. Altman was honorable mention for AMCC Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week for her efforts in goal.
The game was the last conference game for UPG this season. The Bobcats, now 3-11 overall with a 2-4 record in AMCC play, host Chatham College on Oct. 16, the final home game of the season and will play at Hiram on Oct. 22 to end the season.
The Bobcats opened their week with a 1-0 loss to non-conference foe Waynesburg at Ridilla Field on Oct. 10. But when it really mattered, the Bobcats came through as they ran to a 3-2 victory over AMCC foe PSU-Behrend on Oct. 13.
The win was the first ever for the Bobcats against Penn State Behrend. Junior Bill McIntosh (South Park H.S.) scored two goals at Behrend, including the game-winner. Freshman standout Dave Tintera (Penn Trafford H.S.) scored the other goal for UPG. McIntosh was honorable mention for AMCC Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week.
The win moved the Bobcats into first place in the AMCC with a 5-1 AMCC record. Overall the Bobcats are 6-6. The Bobcats play host to Carnegie Mellon University, the 26th ranked team in the country, on Oct. 17.
The Bobcats were in action once last week, suffering a 6-1 loss to AMCC foe Penn State-Altoona on Oct. 9. The Bobcats, 2-4 in the AMCC and 2-10 overall, travel to Chatham College (Pittsburgh, Pa.) for a match on Oct. 18.
A team that began the season 4-1 and showed great promise has taken a nosedive, going 1-11 in their last 12 games. The Bobcats were in action three times last week, including home games against AMCC opponents PSU-Behrend and LaRoche.
Against Behrend on Oct. 8, the Bobcats lost 3-0 before repeating the performance at Carlow College (Pittsburgh, Pa.) on Oct. 11.
On Oct. 13 the Bobcats pushed LaRoche the distance before losing 3-2. The Bobcats, 1-6 in the AMCC and 5-12 overall, host AMCC foe PSU-Altoona on Oct. 17 before traveling to AMCC foe Pitt-Bradford on Oct. 20.
