The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg Bobcats kicked off their second season on Saturday, Sept. 1 at home against Carnegie Melon University with a 8-0 loss.
The Bobcats roster consists of ten freshmen and seven upperclassmen, including five returning players. Senior Lauri Altman (Greensburg-Salem H.S.) served as co-captain for last year’s squad while sophomore Katie O’Brien (McGuffy H.S.) led the Bobcats with three goals.
The Bobcats will try this week to get their first win. They travel to Thiel on Tuesday, Sept. 4 before making weekend trip to Buffalo, NY to face D’Youville, and Hilbert on Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8, respectively.
The UPG Bobcats opened their season on Saturday, Sept. 1 at home against Grove City in disappointing fashion. Despite out shooting Grove City 16-3, the Bobcats lost 1-0.
The 2001 Bobcats return 13 players to their 28-man roster. Among the returnees are seniors Mark Scott (Uniontown H.S.) and Salvatore Molitierno (Greensburg Central Catholic H.S.), as well as junior co-captains Mitch Paterline and Bill McIntosh. Also returning is UPG’s all-time men’s soccer scoring leader, junior Brandon Migitsch (Penn-Trafford H.S.).
The Bobcats travel to Thiel on Wednesday, Sept. 5 and Westminster on Saturday, Sept. 8.
The UPG Women’s tennis team was also in action on Saturday, Sept. 1, competing at home against Thiel. The Bobcats competed hard but dropped the match 5-4.
Juniors Heather Cox (Alderdice H.S.) and Kristy Scholl (Norwin H.S.) and sophomore Jessie Hilliard (Shannock Valley H.S.) all earned wins in singles competition for the Bobcats. In doubles competition, the team of Cox-Hilliard earned an 8-2 victory.
The Bobcats host Bethany on Thursday, Sept. 6 and AMCC rival Frostburg State on Saturday, Sept. 8.
Cox was honorable mention for AMCC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week.
The Bobcats, under new head coach Janet Buchheit, began their season on Saturday, Sept. 1 with a 3-0 home loss to Seton Hill College. The Bobcats dropped the games 30-20, 30-15, and 30-24, respectively.
The Bobcats host Chatham on Tuesday, Sept. 4 before traveling to Point
Park College on Sept. 5. The Bobcats will also compete in the D’Youville
Tourney on Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8.
