Baseball Update
Bobcats Drop Doubleheader

The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg Baseball Team opened its season with two losses in a doubleheader at St. Vincent College on Thursday by scores of 11-5 and 4-1.

Outfielder Josh Miller (Freshman/Hempfield Area H.S.) and centerfielder Doug Gallick (Senior/Mt. Pleasant H.S.) were the starting pitchers for the Bobcats.  Both players were credited with losses.

Offensively, outfielder Kirk Loos (Sophomore/Ringgold H.S.) led the Bobcats by going 7-13 at the plate and collecting one RBI while scoring a run.  First baseman John Parknavy (Sophomore/Mckeesport H.S.) went 3-6 from the plate, with a homerun, three RBIs, and one run scored. Six different players scored for UPG in the two losses.

The Bobcats travel to Bethany (Bethany, W.Va.) on Thursday, before hosting Lake Erie College in an Allegheny-Mountain-Collegiate-Conference match up on Saturday. *

Softball Update
Bobcats Searching For First Win

The UPG Bobcats played twice last week, dropping doubleheaders at Chatham on Friday and at AMCC foe Penn State-Behrend on Saturday.  At Chatham, the Bobcats scored only 5 runs.  The Bobcats lost both games, 13-4 and 8-1.

Against Chatham, shortstop Ashley Burkholder (Sophomore/Cocalico H.S.) and catcher Devon Tokar (Freshman/Hempfield Area H.S.) started on the mound for UPG. Both players were credited with losses.

Offensively, led the charge by Burkholder who went 2-5 with 2 RBIs and two runs scored. Third baseman Rachel Dye (Sophomore/McGuffey H.S.) went 3-6 from the plate and scored a run for UPG.

The Bobcats ended their week on Saturday, March 16 with losses at PSU-Behrend by scores of 19-1 and 10-1.

UPG, currently 0-4 overall with a 0-2 record in conference play, will host Pitt Bradford in an AMCC doubleheader on Saturday at home.  The first pitch will be thrown at 1 p.m. **

Men’s Tennis Update
Bobcats Earn First Victory

The Bobcats earned their first win of the season by crushing Lake Erie College on the road, 8-1, in an AMCC match-up on Friday.

Senior Tom Janicki (Quaker Valley H.S.), and sophomore Jon Germock (Yough H.S.) lead the Bobcats to the victory.  Also winning in singles competition were freshmen Bryan Gesinski (Mt. Pleasant H.S.), Mike Heise (Canon-McMillan H.S.), Chris Gesinski (Mt. Pleasant H.S.), and Jason Pishney (Greensburg Salem H.S.).

In doubles competition, the team of Chris Gesinski—Pishney won 8-2, while Janicki—Puneet Mehrotra (Hempfield Area H.S.) triumphed 8-0.

Preceding the victory at Lake Erie, the Bobcats faced PSU-Behrend, dropping a 6-3 decision.  Mehrotra was the lone singles winner for UPG by defeating his opponent 6-4, 3-6, and 7-6.

In doubles competition, the team of Gesinski—Gesinski won 9-8 in a tiebreaker, while Germock—Heise won 8-2.

Now 1-3 overall with a 1-1 mark in conference play, the Bobcats host Westminster in a non-conference match on Thursday at 1 p.m.  The Bobcats close their week on Sunday by hosting Juniata at 3 p.m.  Both matches are at the Greensburg Racquet Club off Route 30.
