The Bobcats ended their season on Friday, Feb 23 with a 59-51 Semi-Final loss to Penn State-Altoona in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament. Thus ended the Women’s Basketball Teams best season ever with a 15-11 record.
Freshman forward Nicole Kushner (Canon McMillan H.S.) made the AMCC All-Tournament First Team. UPG was also represented on the All-Tournament team by sophomore forward Erin Arnold (Kiski Area H.S.) who made the second team. Freshman guard Torey Auld (Seneca Valley H.S.) was honorable mention.
The loss to Penn State-Altoona came after the Bobcats won their first round AMCC tournament game with an 86-71 home win over Frostburg State on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
The 2000-01 Bobcats finished the season with a 15-11 record overall, the best in UPG Women’s Basketball history. The Bobcats’ season was good enough to earn Carol Gelet AMCC Coach of the Year honors in her second year in charge of the Bobcats women’s basketball program.
The future looks very bright for the Bobcats, as they will return eight players to next year’s squad.
With a 63-62 loss to LaRoche in the first round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 21, the Bobcats season came to an end.
Senior guard Josh Sapotichne (Greensburg Salem H.S.) made the AMCC All-Tournament second team while freshman guard Scott Winfrey (Uniontown H.S.) was an honorable mention for All-Tournament honors.
After tremendous success in the past few seasons the Bobcats endured
their worst season ever under first-year head coach Karl Radday, going
2-23 overall with a 2-10 record in the AMCC. However, the team never
quit as noticeable by the fact that the final game was a one-point loss.
