Women’s Basketball Update
Bobcats Go 3-0 as Sral Is Honored

The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg Bobcats improved to 6-3 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference with conference wins against Penn State-Altoona and Lake Erie.  A non-conference win against Washington & Jefferson helped improve the Bobcats to 8-12 overall and 3-0 for the week.  Outstanding performances from sophomore guard Annie Sral (Bishop Guilfoyle H.S.) earned her AMCC Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week honors and she was chosen for the ECAC Southern Region Honor Roll.

Against the W&J Presidents on Monday, Feb. 28, four Bobcats scored in double figures en route to an 85-74 win.  Sral filled the box score with a career-high 24 points while also hauling down 10 rebounds, handing out seven assists, and recording four steals.  Junior Erin Arnold (Kiski Area H.S.) added to her career-scoring record with 20 points.  Arnold also broke UPG’s all-time rebounding mark by grabbing seven caroms in the win.

Sophomore guard Jordan Fox (Hempfield Area H.S.) scored 11 points, fueled by three three-pointers while fellow sophomore Torey Auld (Seneca Valley H.S.) scored 10 points while dishing seven assists and collecting seven rebounds.

Two nights later, the Bobcats hosted PSU-Altoona.  After leading by as much as 21, the Bobcats came away with a 63-57 victory.  Sral once again led the way with 17 points, eight rebounds, and four steals.

Freshman forward Amy Ploskunak (Plum H.S.) scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds, while freshman guard Abbey Cunningham (Brookpoint H.S.) scored 10 points and grabbed seven boards.

The Bobcats final game of the week was Saturday, Feb. 2 at Lake Erie College. Ploskunak led all scorers with 21 points, while Sral scored 16 points, dished out four assists and grabbed six rebounds.  Arnold just missed a double double with nine points and a game-high 15 caroms.

The Bobcats host AMCC foe Frostburg State on Wednesday, Feb. 6th before traveling to Carlow (Pittsburgh, Pa.) for a 2:00p.m. game on Saturday Feb. 9.  The Bobcats are right back in action on Monday, Feb. 11 as they travel to Chatham (Pittsburgh, Pa.) for a non-conference game at 7:00 p.m. 


Men’s Basketball Update
Moye Comes Up Big in Two UPG Wins

Led by Ryan Moye (Washington H.S.), who scored a game-high 21 points, the Bobcats rolled to a 92-67 win over AMCC foe PSU-Altoona on Wednesday, Jan. 30.  Moye also grabbed three rebounds and added three assists for the Bobcats, who never trailed in the game.

 Junior forward Garret Treese (Hempfield Area H.S.) continued his strong play with 12 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two blocks, while freshman guard Kevin Conlon (Bellwood Antis H.S.) went a perfect 6-6 from the field including 4-4 from downtown for 16 points in the win.

The Bobcats closed their week with an 84-80 win at Lake Erie College on Feb 2.  After trailing 12-5 early in the first half, the Bobcats went on a 19-9 run and led 34-30 at halftime.  The Bobcats never trailed in the second half to hang on for the win.

Moye scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds while Treese scored 14 points.  Freshman guard Nate Watkins (Schenley H.S.) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and scored five points for UPG.  Conlon and fellow freshmen Phil Grenda (Mt. Pleasant H.S.), and John Pulley (South Western H.S.) scored 11, 14, and 13 points, respectively.  Conlon also hauled down six rebounds.

For his efforts, Moye was honorable mention for AMCC Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week.  Moye scored 36 points on 13-17 shooting, grabbed nine rebounds, dished three assists, and had two steals in the victories.

The Bobcats, now 7-13 overall and 4-5 in the AMCC, host AMCC foe Frostburg State on Wednesday, Feb. 6th and host Newport News in a non-conference game on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2:00p.m. The Bobcats are currently in 4th place in the AMCC and if they can hold onto that spot these last two weeks they will host a first round conference game on February 20th.
