Women’s Basketball Update
Bobcats Suffer Disappointing Losses

After 10 consecutive victories at home, the Bobcats tasted the bitter taste of losing on Wednesday, Jan. 13 with a 56-52 defeat to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Penn State-Behrend.  The Bobcats took a 53-52 lead with just 37 seconds to play but couldn’t hang on.

Sophomore guard Annie Sral (Bishop Guilfoyle H.S.) paced the Bobcats with 13 points.  Sral’s game did not end with scoring, however, as she also grabbed five rebounds, dished five assists, and had two steals.

Junior forward Erin Arnold (Kiski Area H.S.) posted a double-double.  She scored 10 points and grabbed 10 boards in addition to one assist and one block.  Sophomore guard Torey Auld (Seneca Valley H.S.) handed out a game-high seven assists.

Following the loss to PSU-Behrend, the Bobcats made the trip to AMCC opponent Pitt-Bradford.  The Bobcats couldn’t get it to all come together against the Panthers, losing a 60-57 heartbreaker.  Arnold ripped the net for 16 points and added seven rebounds, two assists, four steals, and one block while Auld again had a solid performance with 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

The two losses knocked the Bobcats to third place in the AMCC standings with a 4-3 record in AMCC play.  Overall, the Bobcats are 5-12 with a conference games against Penn State-Altoona (at home on Wednesday, Jan. 30) and Lake Erie (Painesville, Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 3). 


Men’s Basketball Update
Two Losses

A win against AMCC foe PSU-Behrend on Wednesday, Jan. 23 would have helped get the Bobcats one step closer to hosting a first-round game in the AMCC tourney at season’s end.  However, the PSU-Behrend overpowered the Bobcats as they suffered a 78-47 home loss.

Freshman guard Kevin Conlon (Bellwood-Antis H.S.) scored 10 points, grabbed two boards, and handed out one steal while freshman forward Phil Grenda (Mt. Pleasant H.S.) scored 11 points, including two on an alley-oop dunk early in the first half (the assist was from sophomore guard Scott Winfrey).

The Bobcats then made the trip to league leading Pitt-Bradford on Saturday, Jan. 26.  After falling behind by 19 points at the half, the Bobcats played the Panthers evenly in the second half of a 92-72 loss.

Conlon scored 21 points and dished out four assists while freshman guard Nate Watkins played a solid game with 10 points, eight rebounds, and a team-high four assists.  Junior forward Garret Treese (Hempfield Area H.S.) scored a season-high 13 points for UPG.

Conlon was honorable mention for AMCC Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week.

The Bobcats are now 2-5 in the AMCC and 5-12 overall.  UPG will host AMCC basement-dweller PSU-Altoona on Jan. 30 before traveling to Lake Erie on Feb. 2.
